In the middle of chaos, our only hope is community.
The What
Manemi
Tucked away in the sun-drenched hills of Andalucía lies a hidden kaleidoscope of color and creativity: three free-form bungalows that burst with vibrant murals, whimsical sculptures, and secret treasures waiting to be discovered. Far from the beaten path, this enchanting escape invites you to wander, wonder, and immerse yourself in an ever-evolving gallery where art and nature dance under the warm Mediterranean sky.
The Why
Philosophy
Art should awaken the senses, nature should ground the spirit, and community should ignite connection. Here, three free-form bungalows become living canvases - each brushstroke, sculpture, and hidden treasure a testament to curiosity and craftsmanship. We believe in sustainable celebration: events that honor the land, invite collaboration with local artisans, and leave a positive footprint. Spaces that spark conversation, reflection, and joyful serendipity.
The How
Architecture
Conceived by our father, grandfather, and visionary architect Emilio Álvarez Yela, Casa Manemi is a celebration of organic form and creative reuse. Built entirely of free-form concrete, the three bungalows eschew straight lines and sharp corners - each wall flows into the next in undulating curves that echo the surrounding hills. Over the years, Álvarez Yela and local artists have enriched the structures with dozens of sculptures and vibrant murals, transforming every surface into a canvas. Sunlight filters through handcrafted bottle-glass windows, while reclaimed timber, salvaged metal, and other recycled materials weave sustainable stories into the concrete shell. Here, architecture follows no rules - only the rhythm of imagination - inviting you to explore a living artwork that breathes, bends, and surprises at every turn.
The When
History
What began as a playful experiment among four artist friends has blossomed into the living artwork you see today. In the early 2000s, they set out with little more than concrete, recycled treasures, and boundless imagination to hand-build three free-form bungalows in the hills above Árchez. Over countless weekends and creative marathons, friends, family, and local artisans joined in - sculpting walls, embedding mosaics of salvaged bottles, and carving hidden nooks. Word of this collaborative marvel spread far beyond Andalucía: in 2019, Spain’s edition of The World’s Craziest Homes featured Casa Manemi as a must-see architectural wonder. From its humble roots to its vibrant present, every curve and ornament tells a story of communal spirit and artistic daring.
